Pensacola State College, PSC Charter Academy and WSRE-TV participated in the “Watson Family Foundation’s Second Annual Juneteenth: A Family Reunion for the Culture” held Saturday, June 17, in Museum Park in downtown Pensacola.

On hand for the event were PSC administrators and faculty members – Director of Community and Special Initiatives Rameca Vincent-Leary, Business Department Head Michael Payne and Executive Director of Marketing Sheila Nichols, Charter Academy Principal Karen McCabe and WSRE-TV General Manager Jill Hubbs. PSC volunteer extraordinaire Vaughn Nichols also was at the festival to support the College.

Shelia Nichols said she was excited for the opportunity to participate in the Juneteenth festival.

“The weather was beautiful, the entertainment amazing, the food so delicious. It truly felt like a family reunion with fun and entertainment for all ages.  In addition, it educated us on the true meaning of Juneteenth through speakers, music, storytelling, and dance. Among the thousands of people who attended, we saw a lot of PJC/PSC alumni and spoke with many potential students and their parents,” she said.

“The Juneteenth festival allowed Pensacola State, Charter Academy and WSRE a chance to share the wonderful educational opportunities available here in Pensacola.”

McCabe agreed and added that the Charter Academy found a new community partner.

“The Watson Family Foundation is a staunch supporter of the community, and we are grateful to have been able to add our support and share the vision and mission of the Charter Academy,” McCabe said.

“Much interest was shown in the information we shared about the College and the Charter Academy. We hope that this is the first of many more collaborations.”
